Representative Rose Announces 2021 TN-6 Congressional Art Competition

WASHINGTON—Today, U.S. Representative John Rose (TN-6) announced he will start accepting submissions for the 2021 Congressional Art Competition. Each spring, the House of Representatives and the Congressional Institute sponsor a nationwide high school arts competition as an opportunity for high school students residing in the Sixth Congressional District of Tennessee to showcase their talents.

"It is my honor to invite and encourage students throughout the Sixth Congressional District to share their artistic creations by participating in the annual Congressional Art Competition, where the winning entry will be proudly displayed at the U.S. Capitol. I'm continually amazed by the remarkable talents of these young artists, and I'm positive this year will be no different," said Representative Rose.

High school students residing in Tennessee's Sixth Congressional District are eligible to enter. All submissions must be original in concept, design and execution and may not violate any U.S. copyright laws. Artwork entered in the contest may be up to 26 inches by 26 inches, may be up to 4 inches in depth, and not weigh more than 15 pounds. If the artwork is selected as the winning piece, it must arrive framed and must still measure no larger than the above maximum dimensions.

Accepted mediums for the two-dimensional artwork are as follows:

  • Paintings - including oil, acrylics, and watercolor
  • Drawings - including pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, and markers (It is recommended that charcoal and pastel drawings be fixed.)
  • Collages - must be two dimensional
  • Prints - including lithographs, silkscreen, and block prints
  • Mixed Media - use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc.
  • Computer-generated art
  • Photography

Artwork submissions are due to one of Representative Rose's district offices (Gallatin or Cookeville) by close of business on April 23, 2021. For complete details about requirements, please click here.

U.S. Representative John Rose is currently serving his second term representing Tennessee's Sixth Congressional District and resides in Cookeville with his wife, Chelsea, and their son, Guy. The Sixth District includes Cannon, Clay, Coffee, Cumberland, DeKalb, Fentress, Jackson, Macon, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, Robertson, Smith, Sumner, Trousdale, White, and Wilson counties as well as portions of Cheatham and Van Buren counties. Representative Rose is an eighth-generation farmer, small business owner, and currently serves on the Financial Services Committee.
