Rose Travels to Southern Border to Investigate Immigration Crisis

March 15, 2021

WASHINGTON—Today, U.S. Representative John Rose (TN-6) joined Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and other Republican colleagues to investigate the impact of the Biden Administration's reckless immigration policies at our southern border.

"During my trip to El Paso, Texas, I witnessed first-hand the crisis at our southern border. After returning, I have to tell the people of the Sixth District of Tennessee that I have looked into the eyes of these young immigrants and their families and that I am saddened. I am saddened because they are coming to America believing they can achieve the American Dream, but instead, they will be facing the Biden Nightmare. They have been encouraged to come here by the misguided open border policies of our current president, but first they must travel a dangerous gauntlet that many will not survive and those that do are subject to harsh conditions, separation from loved ones, and often exploitation from cartels that profit from their migration.

"Our unsecure borders are being taken advantage of daily by human traffickers and drug cartels, and the surge of immigrants entering the U.S. illegally is a direct result of the Biden Administration's new policies that communicate an open invitation. The consequences of releasing illegal immigrants into the U.S., especially during a health crisis, are bad for America and all Americans.

"This was an eye-opening trip and it has further instilled my commitment to fight these open border policies, address this crisis, and fix our broken immigration system. I now call on President Biden to end this nightmare by announcing to the world that our southern border is open for legal immigration only." said Representative Rose.

In addition to visiting the U.S.-Mexico border, Representative Rose toured the El Paso Central Processing Center and met with Border Patrol agents. Representative Rose participated in a press conference following the tour, his remarks in full are available here.

U.S. Representative John Rose is currently serving his second term representing Tennessee's Sixth Congressional District and resides in Cookeville with his wife, Chelsea, and their son, Guy. The Sixth District includes Cannon, Clay, Coffee, Cumberland, DeKalb, Fentress, Jackson, Macon, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, Robertson, Smith, Sumner, Trousdale, White, and Wilson counties as well as portions of Cheatham and Van Buren counties. Representative Rose is an eighth-generation farmer, small business owner, and currently serves on the Financial Services Committee.
