U.S. House Passes Rep. Rose Amendment Providing Transparency and Protecting Border from Hamas Terrorists

January 31, 2024

Washington, DC—Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed Representative John Rose’s (TN-06) amendment to H.R. 6679, which would require an annual report to Congress from the Secretary of Homeland Security on the number of individuals found to be inadmissible and deportable each year as a result of the underlying bill.

H.R. 6679, the No immigration Benefits for Hamas Terrorists Act, was introduced by Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA) and would impose immigration-related penalties on non-U.S. nationals who were involved with terrorist attacks against Israel. The bill mandates that members of Palestinian Islamic Jihad or Hamas or any individual who participated in or otherwise facilitated the October 7, 2023, terrorist attacks on Israel may not be admissible into the United States. Additionally, the bill also declares any members of Palestinian Islamic Jihad or Hamas or any individual who participated in or otherwise facilitated the October 7, 2023, terrorist attacks on Israel to be deportable.

Rep. Rose’s amendment was the only one of fifteen amendments submitted to be made in order by the Rules Committee.

Rep. Rose released the following statement:

“I’m glad my amendment passed the House to require transparency about the number of people trying to enter the United States who may have participated in the heinous attacks against our ally Israel,” said Rep. Rose. “Rep. McClintock’s legislation is a great bill that I was proud to support, and I am thankful for the opportunity to provide more transparency by offering my amendment.”
