U.S. Rep.-Elect John Rose’s Statement on Speaker of the House Vote

January 5, 2023

Washington, DC—Today, U.S. Representative-Elect John Rose released the following statement regarding the U.S. House of Representatives vote for Speaker of the House:

“Tennesseans are ready for the new Republican Majority to disrupt President Biden’s out-of-touch agenda. I, too, am ready to get to work for America with a new Republican House Majority. While the President is feigning concern for the self-inflicted crisis at our southern border and commanding media attention on the issue, Republicans are paralyzed by self-serving demands made by a few House Members.

Kevin McCarthy was nominated for Speaker of the House by a stalwart conservative whom I greatly respect, Jim Jordan, and many other America-First conservatives. I have proudly cast my vote for Mr. McCarthy on numerous occasions, along with the overwhelming majority of my Republican colleagues and the majority of the Tennessee Congressional Delegation. Kevin McCarthy stood with the most conservative of us in Congress and voted against certifying the presidential election results on January 6, 2021. He was brave enough to make that stand, and he has unashamedly stepped forward as a willing leader of our party in the House and has offered himself to the vetting that anyone wishing to be speaker should undergo.

The rules package he is offering would eliminate proxy voting (which I never did), eliminate virtual committee hearings, limit bills to a single subject, repeal collective bargaining rules adopted last year, reduce the number of House Members required to oust a speaker, establish a select judiciary subcommittee to centralize investigations into the Biden Administration, reinstate the Holman Rule which sets a direct check and balance on Biden’s liberal Cabinet and returns power back to the People’s House, and much more to restore accountability in our government. These are monumental victories for conservatives like me.

Now is not the time for a last-second, long-shot candidate to lead our caucus. Now is the time to unite behind the proven conservative leader who is endorsed by President Trump and the majority of our conference knows and supports, Kevin McCarthy, and get to work on behalf of the American People.

U.S. Representative-Elect John Rose is currently awaiting to serve his third term representing Tennessee's Sixth Congressional District and resides in Cookeville with his wife, Chelsea, and their two sons, Guy and Sam.
