U.S. Rep. Rose Rejects Massive Last-Minute Funding Bill

December 23, 2022

Washington, DC—Today, U.S. Representative John Rose voted “No” on the $1.7 trillion Fiscal Year 2023 Omnibus Appropriations Bill, the primary funding bill of the federal government.

U.S. Representative John Rose released the following statement:

“The American People elected a new Republican Majority in the U.S. House of Representatives to put an end to the status quo of one-party Democratic rule in Washington and to restore accountability within the Biden Administration plagued with self-inflicted crises,” said Rep. Rose. “The last thing a lame-duck Congress should do is pass a $1.7 trillion spending bill two weeks before a new Republican majority is sworn in, especially one that fails to secure our border, fails to defund President Biden’s 87,000 new IRS agents, that fails to hold those in the FBI accountable for colluding with the Biden campaign to suppress free speech, and that drives our national debt even higher. I voted “No” and remain hopeful a Republican-led House of Representatives can begin to rein in the reckless and misguided spending of the Biden Administration and Congressional Democrats over the last two years.”

U.S. Representative John Rose is currently serving his second term representing Tennessee's Sixth Congressional District and resides in Cookeville with his wife, Chelsea, and their two sons, Guy and Sam. The Sixth District includes Cannon, Clay, Coffee, Cumberland, DeKalb, Fentress, Jackson, Macon, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, Robertson, Smith, Sumner, Trousdale, White, and Wilson counties as well as portions of Cheatham and Van Buren counties. Representative Rose is an eighth-generation farmer, small business owner, and attorney, and currently serves on the House Financial Services Committee.
