U.S. Representative John Rose Calls on DHS Secretary Mayorkas to Resign or be Impeached following Reports of ICE Detainees Being Transported to Tennessee

December 20, 2022

Washington, DC—Today, U.S. Representative John Rose (TN-06) called on Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to resign or be impeached following the announcement from Governor Lee that his office was notified that the Biden Administration intends to transport Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) adult detainees to Tennessee.

“Secretary Mayorkas should do the honorable thing and resign. If he does not, then he must be impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives,” said Representative Rose. “Countless times, Secretary Mayorkas has failed to uphold his oath of office to support and defend the U.S. Constitution. Approximately 175 Americans die every day from Fentanyl coming across our southern border, and he—along with the Biden Administration’s so-called “Border Czar” Vice-President Harris—have done nothing but hold the door open as illegal immigrants flood our border and overwhelm our legal immigration process.” On February 10th, 2022, U.S. Rep. Rose signed a letter, along with a number of his congressional colleagues, calling on DHS Secretary Mayorkas to resign for his failures to lead the department and gross negligence when enforcing federal immigration laws.

U.S. Representative John Rose is currently serving his second term representing Tennessee's Sixth Congressional District and resides in Cookeville with his wife, Chelsea, and their two sons, Guy and Sam. The Sixth District includes Cannon, Clay, Coffee, Cumberland, DeKalb, Fentress, Jackson, Macon, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, Robertson, Smith, Sumner, Trousdale, White, and Wilson counties as well as portions of Cheatham and Van Buren counties. Representative Rose is an eighth-generation farmer, small business owner, and attorney, and currently serves on the House Financial Services Committee.
